Today is quite humid and sticky and a bit rainy which is actually the perfect scenario for releasing ladybugs in my garden. I bought them at the suggestion of another blogger. There were 5,000 of them, photos to follow. Now I have no idea if there were actually 5,000 bugs in that little bag but there were lots and lots. Estimating the number of ladybugs is a bit like trying to guess how many jelly beans are in the jar. Anyway, they are released and hopefully doing their thing which is eating aphids and other annoying garden pests.
I do wish I could come up with a solution for this vole who has returned to my garden this summer. I was thinking he was around because I have found some dead leaves on my cherry tree as well as on the big tree that shades us all summer. What the vole does is eat the roots and slowly but surely the plant / tree will die. I have had two official sightings of this varmint today. I guess later on I will try to see if I can find a hole and plug it up with an unpleasant concoction.
I also got a praying mantis in the mail and have attached the egg casing to a tree until such time as it decides to hatch. I saw the clip on the website - kind of gross but they will eat more garden pests. All of this is an effort to garden without using pesticides, being earth friendly.
I just got home and was happy not to see 5,000 ladybugs on my screens trying to get in. I am going to rest now and deal with the vole tomorrow.
Bye for now ...
