Okay, it has taken the entire day to figure out how to put up the link and image for the Kindle. You know, the reading device that is the best invention since night baseball. I am certain many people would have figured it out sooner, but here you go.
So now that I have put in the rose bushes and cleaned up a bit of the messy spots the garden is ready for some sunshine which I think we'll have tomorrow.
If you have not yet pruned your hydrangeas read this. Usually by Memorial Day I find the bushes have filled out and there are branches sticking out above the greenery. These are the branches you need to prune. Some people will tell you to cut those branches way back but this year I cut them to just below the greenery. I don't have a clear enough idea of what is new wood and what is old wood in order to feel confident pruning earlier in the season. I think the flowers bloom on new wood. This way is foolproof, although you'll have a couple of weeks while the bushes look unsightly. And never prune the whole bush all the way to the ground in the fall because this will result in a summer of no blooms! You'll get leaves but no flowers.
In a couple of weeks the hydrangeas will be spectacular.
