A rainy day

Yes, yes, I know it's a rainy day. But that shouldn't keep you from having a nice time. You can curl up with Rules of Civility by Amor Towles. It's a good book for a rainy day. You can spoil yourself by making a casserole or something for dinner this morning and then flake out for the whole afternoon with your book.

OR, you can be productive, depending on your mood.

You can clean closets, moving summer stuff and making room for winter (how dare I say that word) clothes. For some people that is a satisfying job. If, for you, it is torture save it for another day.You can sell your tired clothes on eBay (like me!) or give them to a thrift shop. I like the Salvation Army in Port Chester or Goodwill in Stamford. These places both seem like they could use a hand.

It's a gentle rain today so you could plant some grass seed in the bare spots. Sprinkle it around and then sprinkle topsoil over it. The topsoil cover will keep the birds from using your grass seed patch as their salad bar. (Oh dear, not sounding so gentle in the rain department out there so maybe save that task for another day).

More books to read: Michael Connelly has apparently been around forever but I had never read his books.  Well, he is very entertaining.  He has a series about Harry Bosch which is about murder (love this) and they are easy books to read. As I have told you in the past, I am not a rocket scientist.

I have to be on a conference call today about Sunday's class at WS. "Pressure Cooking" is the subject. I can't figure out why we are heading back to the 1950's but maybe it will be illuminating. We'll see. All I remember about the pressure cooker is when my Dad would be sitting on the counter chatting with Mom while she made dinner. She would put the pressure cooker in the sink and then release it and each and every time he would jump a mile high. I am hoping this part of pressure cooking has been refined.

I am going to have to think of more idle-time activities or else I'll lose my whole readership!

Sister and Father of the bride - so sweet

I am still in a state of wonder at how beautiful the wedding was and how much love was in the air. You see, I am an incurable romantic.

Post weekend

For me, today is a day to revel in the fact that it is warm and summery outside. I am enjoying having all of the windows open and a light breeze wafting through my house.

I am also enjoying the memories of what was an absolutely perfect wedding weekend. The bride was beautiful, the groom handsome and the parties were just tons of fun. So great to see a girl grow from a toddler into a beautiful young woman. I saw lots of old friends, didn't spend enough time with any of them but enjoyed them all the same.

I'm homesick for my mini-vacation

A quick trip to the Vineyard was a fun diversion, and I was able to stay in complete denial about summer's ending for a few blissful days. I loved this t-shirt. So far of the five things listed I have a pretty great tan.

Extending the Summer

OK, so I got a sweet invite to MV for a few days. I am going to defy tradition and wear my white Bermuda shorts and my summer tops even though we are post Labor Day. I don't think the Fashion Police are coming to this party.

But, first I have to show a bunch of people how to make pasta at a class and I HAVE NO IDEA how to make it.  But I guess I'll figure it out before Sunday. You just have to stay one step ahead of your students.

I just had my first pizza (gluten free!) from Homemade Pizza Co. and it was excellent. Can't wait to have another ...

So, it finally had to come to a close but did Mother Nature have to be so ruthless about ending our summer? Gray and gloomy the day after Labor Day and even grayer and gloomier today. Oh, I know there will be some gorgeous fall days to enjoy but this transition always makes me sad.

I have a new book to read: Rules of Civility by Amor Towles. I don't know anything about it except that people are saying it's a good read.
