Good night, Irene

Now that Irene has torn through here without as much damage as there could have been, let's focus on the important things: if at all possible, get yourself to the beach this week! Pack your beach bag and go for it.

Here is a gardenia from my tree. I just love it.

Rain, rain, go away

Come back another day! Well, actually, we can't complain too much. We have not had much rain this summer and this rain is good for the grass and the gardens. By the way, speaking of gardens, there is not one sign of a ladybug out there. I have released 10,000 ladbybugs this summer so it ought to be interesting once the weather starts to cool down. They'll be covering my screens trying to get in!

I saw The Help yesterday and would recommend it. The casting was perfection. I may go see Sarah's Key today, not sure.

Themes for August

August

And, for the next four or five or six weeks make sure you have a tomato sandwich every day. There is nothing better in the world. Well, blueberries run a close second. Make sure you have these every morning for the rest of the summer. Combined with peaches they are absolutely delish!

Peaches!

Peaches, peaches, peaches!  I am loving the peach crop this summer.  I must eat three or four a day! Well, that's all I'll admit to. I don't go crazy and make peach cobbler, peach pie, etc. because what I love is the pure peach, skin and all, right from the vine. Well, right from the produce section. I don't know what I'll eat as a substitute after the season but I can't worry about that right now.

There are four full weekends of summer left so get out and enjoy them.  I love August because of peaches, corn, crickets, and letting the garden go. At this point it has a mind of its own so I just water it and let it take off in any direction.

And I have still been reading like mad. A Stolen Life: A Memoir by Jaycee Dugard who, at age 11 was held captive for 18 years.  It's important to read this so you can have an understanding about why people in captivity don't just bolt for freedom when they are out on a trip to the thrift store. Sister: A Novel by Rosamund Lupton is a very well written story. I won't attempt to describe it for you - just make sure you read it. I am reading another book now but not so sure it is worthy of a recommendation.

Go outside and have fun!

Dog Days

My computer has been in the fix-it shop this week. I felt as though my right hand had been cut off without it. I mean, really, I am so dependent on it now and dreadfully miss its company when its gone.

So, in the meantime,  I got really busy gardening. Think I am done with projects for a while because, of course, I got carried away (what me, carried away? Being carried away is practically what defines me.) and have to nurse the sore knee for a few days.

Now that I have the computer back, my faithful MacBook Pro, I have spent the afternoon listing things on eBay. Nothing major, just lots of bits and pieces that ended up in my closet and are soon to be destined for someone else's.

The weather today is sultry summer with a threat of a thunderstorm. I love these kind of days but that is only because I am not cooped up with small children in a house.

Keeping in mind the importance of eating your veggies and shopping locally I post this photo:

Delish!
